Facebook Dropping Support For BlackBerry’s Mobile Operating System

If you have a BlackBerry and want to hop onto Facebook, soon you’ll have to go through the social media company’s website instead of an app: like WhatsApp before it, Facebook is giving up on BlackBerry and will be dropping support for the devices.

Lou Gazzola, BlackBerry’s senior marketing manager for developer relations, announced the news today in a blog post, saying the company is bummed that Facebook will no longer support Blackberry’s mobile operating systems.

“We are extremely disappointed in their decision as we know so many users love these apps. We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds, but at this time, their decision stands,” Gazzola wrote, urging customers to chime in on the situation on social media.

“Despite this, we have worked hard to ensure our end users have the best experience in light of this decision, and are continuing to search for alternate solutions,” Gazzola adds.

Facebook will be turning off support for its “essential APIs,” which means that at some point, BlackBerry’s third-party apps will stop working. When exactly that will be is still unclear.
