Apple Might Be Planning First Big Update To MacBook Pro Laptops In 4 Years

It’s been more than four years since Apple last announced updates to its line of MacBook Pro laptops, but there could be changes coming down the line, according to a new report.

Bloomberg spoke to some of those ever-wise “people familiar with the matter,” who say that the company wants to use the older product to help revive sales after two slow quarters.

The new laptops will be thinner, include a touch screen for function keys, and will offer more powerful and efficient graphics processors for expert users such as video gamers, the insiders told Bloomberg.

Apple is also planning to use the Touch ID fingerprint technology from its iPhones on the new lineup, which would allow users to log in more quickly and authenticate Apple Pay purchases.

The computers have been in advanced testing since earlier this year, though the MacBook Pros probably won’t be unveiled at the company’s Sept. 7 event, which will likely be all about the next line of iPhones and Apple Watch updates.
